The portal has been branded both Invest Easy and the Oman Business Platform, and both names remain in circulation. The current branding is the Oman Business Platform, but the live URL still runs on the legacy path — business.gov.om/ieasy/wp/en/ — and older /wps/portal/ecr/ paths coexist alongside it. If you land on a page that looks like a different system, you are probably still in the right place.
First: the digital identity question
Oman's government services are built on a national PKI — public key infrastructure — with THEQA as the national e-authentication and e-signature app, run under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's Digital Trust programme. Omanis and residents obtain their PKI credentials at civil status centres using their ID or residence card.
The obvious problem for a foreign investor is that you need to register a company before you can get a residence card, and you need a digital identity to register the company.
The answer, as described in the platform's 2023 refresh, is that identity verification for non-resident foreign investors runs through facial recognition and passport scanning in the platform's mobile app, rather than requiring a physical PKI card. MTCIT separately confirms that a service exists allowing people abroad to transact and sign electronically without visiting in person.
The platform's own PKI activation page was not accessible to our research, so the biometric route for non-residents is confirmed by the platform's technology partner and by independent write-ups rather than by the platform's own documentation. It is well corroborated but not primary.
If you are travelling to Oman specifically to complete registration, confirm with MOCIIP first whether you need to be here at all.
The registration sequence
- Reserve a trade name. MOCIIP checks uniqueness, naming rules and Arabic transliteration. Have three or four alternatives ready — the naming rules are stricter than most applicants expect, and this is where files stall first.
- Select your activity code from the official ISIC list. This single choice determines whether you qualify for 100% foreign ownership, which licences and sector approvals you will need, and what Omanisation target applies. It is worth an hour of care.
- Enter shareholders and management. Passport copies for individual shareholders; the appointed manager is designated authorised signatory. Since Ministerial Decision 245/2025 that person must be a shareholder, the capital owner, a board member, or the company's manager or finance and administrative staff.
- Declare capital and registered address. There is no statutory minimum for an LLC or SPC, but declare a realistic figure — it affects your Chamber grade, your visa quota and how banks read you. The address needs a real lease.
- Review the auto-generated constitutive contract. The platform generates a bilingual memorandum of association from what you have entered.
- Sign digitally and upload supporting documents.
- Pay, and receive your Commercial Registration and foreign investment licence.
No source we found requires physical attendance for a standard LLC or SPC incorporation by a foreign investor using the digital route.
How long it really takes
There are two very different numbers in circulation and both are true, because they measure different things.
| Measure | Figure | What it actually means |
|---|---|---|
| gov.om stated service time | "About 15 minutes" | The processing SLA once a complete application is submitted |
| Registration, start to CR | 3–7 business days | Name reservation through to CR issuance, clean file |
| To operational | 4–6 weeks | Including tax registration, municipal licence, labour clearance |
| Full setup with banking | 3–4 months | Where a corporate bank account is on the critical path |
The gap between fifteen minutes and four months is the real story of Omani company formation. The incorporation step has genuinely been compressed. Everything around it has not, and the bank account in particular is usually the long pole.
What you must do after the CR is issued
Here is where the "single window" description needs qualifying. The platform is a genuine single point of access for incorporation. Full operational compliance is federated across several systems.
| Step | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chamber of Commerce membership | gov.om service, separate transaction | OMR 33, stated at about 10 minutes online. Requires the CR certificate |
| Tax registration and tax card | tms.taxoman.gov.om — a separate portal | We found no confirmation of automatic data-sharing from the business platform |
| Municipality licence | Relevant municipality | Generally required to operate at your registered address |
| Labour clearance and establishment card | Ministry of Labour | Must precede any work visa application to the ROP |
| Corporate bank account | Your chosen bank | Usually the longest single step — see our separate guide |
So the honest description is: a single window for incorporation, a federated system for everything after it. That is still a substantial improvement on what came before, and considerably better than several neighbouring jurisdictions. It is just not the one-click experience the marketing implies.
What has changed recently
- November 2023 — platform and app relaunch, introducing biometric KYC that removed the PKI card requirement for onboarding, trade name and trademark availability checks, application status tracking, an investment guide with process simulation, and the ability to search and lease commercial space online.
- September 2025, at COMEX — three new mobile app capabilities: updating CR data, renewing the CR, and renewing licences. MOCIIP reported the app had over 10,000 users at that point.
- January 2026 — the compliance deadline for aligning registered authorised signatories with the new Article 13 bis rules. That has now passed, so the restriction is fully in force.
The OECD and the platform's technology vendor both describe the process as having been reduced from fifteen steps to three, with registration taking "minutes rather than weeks". Those are vendor and case-study framings of a genuine improvement.
The 10,000-user figure for the mobile app, reported by MOCIIP itself in late 2025, is worth holding alongside them — it suggests the app is still early in adoption rather than the default route for most registrations.

Is Invest Easy the same thing as the Oman Business Platform?
- Do the activity code research before you touch the platform. Almost every downstream problem — bank account refusal, missing sector approval, wrong Omanisation target — traces back to this choice.
- Have your trade names ready, ranked. Rejection here is common and costs days each time.
- Get foreign shareholder documents attested before you start, not when the platform asks for them. This is the step most likely to add weeks.
- Start the bank account conversation in parallel, as soon as you have a CR. Do not treat it as the last item on the list.
- Diarise the follow-on registrations. The platform will not remind you that you still need a tax card.
